Local Brighton Restaurant Guide Celebrates its Fifteenth Year
Here at The New Steine Hotel, our guests often ask us the same delicious question: where should we eat tonight?
For years, our answer has been Restaurants Brighton, the city’s local and independent food and drink guide, which is now celebrating its fifteenth year.

The guide, put together by Brighton people who live and breathe the local dining scene, it’s fun, easy to use and wonderfully practical. We’ve known the team behind it for over 20 years, we love their work, and we think you’ll love it too.
Your pocket guide to eating out in Brighton
Whether you’re craving a candlelit dinner, a leisurely brunch or a cheeky cocktail, the team at Restaurants Brighton serve up brilliant choices across the whole city. You’ll find all the latest openings, tempting deals on their Restaurant Offers page, and a lively monthly round-up on Things to Do in Brighton, so you can plan your stay around the very best of the season.
Love a spontaneous night out? The Brighton Events page lists daily food and drink happenings across the city, from tastings and supper clubs to markets and pop-ups.
Kemptown on our doorstep
Our favourite feature, naturally, is the Kemptown Restaurants guide, which shines a spotlight on the neighbourhood right outside our front door. Kemptown and Kemptown Village are bursting with bohemian character, and you won’t need to wander far to eat and drink brilliantly.
Just up the road, A Table is a little gem well worth booking. For a pint with plenty of personality, The Mucky Duck and The Bell Tower are much-loved locals, while Deep Dive Bar is perfect for an evening tipple in the area’s newest Jazz Bar. Meo and The Velvet Crab add even more flavour to the mix. Then there’s Cup of Joe, a quirky café tucked inside the Kemptown Trading Post antiques market, where you can sip your flat white among vintage treasures. It holds a special place in our hearts!
Why we love Hervé’s Café
On St James’s Street, Hervé’s Café is where French flair meets British comfort, and it’s the perfect way to start a day of exploring. Everything is handmade, with local produce used wherever possible. Breakfast brings all the classics, from a full English to eggs Benedict and eggs royale, alongside plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices.
At lunchtime, tuck into homemade burgers, steak and ale pie or chicken, bacon and leek pie with chips, a gooey croque monsieur or croque madame, the tarte du jour, or a warming French onion soup with sourdough. Cakes are served all day, alongside freshly brewed coffee and unique loose-leaf teas. Above all, it’s a true community café, the kind of place where you’ll feel like a local within minutes.
Christmas in Kemptown and beyond
Staying with us in the run-up to Christmas? Restaurants Brighton features the festive menus for restaurants nearby, making it easy to find the perfect spot for a celebratory feast. It also gives you a handy rundown of the twinkling Christmas markets across the area, ideal for mulled wine, sweet treats and last-minute gifts.
Happy exploring
We hope you love this useful resource as much as we do. If you’d like specific recommendations, simply get in touch with the Restaurants Brighton team directly. They’re always happy to point you towards your next favourite table.
